About

The 2017 release of Q&A, the follow-up of the debut Live And Learn, marked the first release as a whole four piece band. While the album had been written and partially recorded over the span between late 2004 and about 2010, it took a bit longer to fine tune and hone the material into its final result. This was mainly due to the addition of drummer Bob Tellier and bass player Rodney Taylor to the band. After focusing on working on cover material for the live performances. Sprinkling in the original material fine tuned the songs and turned it truly into the band’s material.

KayaMBeE was started as a project/two-man-band in the spring of 2003 when Kerry’s and Bert’s main band MAXX SAVVY took an extended sabbatical. First they were hanging out on the front porch of their homes with acoustic guitars, playing songs from some of their favorite bands. After a few nights the two of them had a nice set of songs worked into a “Tribute Medley”. From then on, those “Tribute Medleys” became one of KayaMBeE’s strengths, e

specially playing out live. However, playing cover songs didn’t seem to satisfy their musical needs, hence the exploration into the world of original music. KayaMBeE’s first original song ever is called “Carpe Diem”. Bert and Kerry started digging this whole recording and song writing stuff, and soon focused on those original recordings more or less entirely.

It took about nine to ten months of work until the first original project was finished, KayaMBeE’s first concept album: “Live And Learn”. Shortly after the album was finished in March of 2004, our jobs parted us, which turned out to be quite a challenge to write new material from two different continents. With the exception of one new song, “Shirts And Skins”, which was written two weeks prior to the ’04 US presidential election, all recording activities came to a complete halt. Call it fortune, call it destiny or what ever, but in January of 2005 once more a career change brought us closer together geographically again. At the moment we live about an hour and a half away from each other, which enables us to get together rather frequently. In April of 2005 we started our recording activities again and have not come to an end ever since… 😉
